Zen. Sanctuary. Relaxation. Beautiful. These are the words that come to mind when speaking of Miami's Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. This venue is a prime attraction in Miami and a wonderful place to spend the day, walking around and exploring the rare tropical flora and fauna. You can also sit on one of the garden's many benches among the lush greenery to read a book, enjoy the water view and just mediate. It's a perfect retreat from Miami's traffic and hectic South Beach.
The Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is a beautiful attraction worth visiting year-round, but is the most flourishing in the winter and spring months. Since it is an outdoors garden, you may want to stay away on the rare rainy days that Miami has. It is open daily from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm except on Christmas Day. There are always interesting events, festivals, and art exhibits going on, so check out the Garden's website to find out the schedule.
Miami's Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is a haven for Miami locals and tourists who want to spend the day renewing with Mother Nature. Admission prices are $25 for adults and $12 for children 6 to 12 years of age. Children 5 and under are free. The Garden is huge and there are many ways to get around. You can either walk or partake in one of the Garden's tours such as the Tropics or Butterflies Walk. If you're too tired you can take a fabulous narrated tram tour which takes you all around the Garden and introduces you to some of its best features.
Tram tours depart every hour on the hour, and begin at 10 am and end at 3 pm every day. During certain events and the high season between November and May, there are also 7-passenger shuttle cart services. The best thing about all these tours is that they are included in the admission price. There is a great eatery the Lakeside Café at the Fairchild which offers delicious food, beverages, and desserts. Note that the Fairchild Garden prohibits smoking everywhere and no wading or swimming in the pond or lakes is allowed.
The Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is located on Old Cutler Road in Miami's Coral Gables neighborhood. It is accessible from I-95, Miami Airport, Miami Beach and many other places in Miami. The Garden is also accessible using public transportation with the Miami-Dade Transit Bus Service. When using the bus, you must tell the driver that you are going to Fairchild Botanic Garden as there is no stop there. Note that there are no buses to Fairchild on Saturdays and Sundays.
The Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden offer many discounts to different groups. Senior citizens over 65 pay only $18 to get in. Active military personnel with a valid ID get into the garden at no charge and their spouses get a $5 discount, and children only pay $10. Triple AAA members get $2 off their admission fee.
The Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is a gorgeous temple of trees, plants, flowers and wildlife, and while the adult admission fee may be steep at $25, it is worth every penny and you won't regret your visit. To save off the admission price you can walk, ride your bike or take public transportation to Fairchild and get $5 off adult admission and $2 off child admission.
You can also get a $2 discount coupon on the Garden's website, or become a member and get in for free every time. You will also get free, exclusive access to various cultural, educational and research programs in horticulture and festivals at Fairchild with an annual membership. Finally you will have free entry to over 205 gardens, arboreta, and conservatories and 300 science museums in the U.S.
