Key Biscayne - Attractions in Miami

Key Biscayne is a small picturesque island located just south of Miami Beach. It is always alive with activity and has some of the most beautiful natural settings in all of Miami. Here you can explore two of Miami's most prominent parks; Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park and Crandon Park which offer lush natural landscapes and some of the best beaches in Miami. Crandon beach is one of the most photographed beaches in the world and provides miles of impeccable beaches, white sands and tons of places to explore, have a picnic or just walk around enjoying the scenery.

Like the rest of Miami, Key Biscayne has near perfect weather during the winter and spring months with sunny skies and warm but comfortable temperatures. This is the best time to visit. In the summer, it can face high heat, humidity and a lot of rain which can make it unpractical to explore, especially since most of Key Biscayne's main attractions are located outdoors. Also, if there's a hurricane, key Biscayne is one of the most susceptible areas and one of the first to be evacuated.

The Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park is open every day, 365 days a year, from 8 am until sunset, while Crandon Park is open daily from sunrise to sunset. Other attractions in key Biscayne have varying operating hours. For example, the Lighthouse is open from Thursday to Monday and has free tours going on from 10 am to 1 pm.

Key Biscayne is a popular escape for Miami locals and tourists and offers tons of outdoor activities and natural attractions. Here you will find the famous Crandon Beach which is frequently voted in the top beaches in the United States. Crandon beach Park costs $5 to enter and park your car. There are cabanas available for rent that include a parking spot, a shower with a locking door and key, and a grilling area for only $37.50 a day.

There is a narrative tram that goes through Crandon Beach Park on the weekends that costs $2 for adults and $1 for children. As for the Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, it costs $4 for one car or motorcycle with one occupant, $8 for two to eight people, and $2 per person on foot or on a bicycle. There are two excellent restaurants that serve up Cuban, American and seafood; the Boater's Grill and the Lighthouse Grill where you can refuel if you get hungry.

Key Biscayne is easily accessible from mainland Miami by Rickenbacker Causeway. If you are on I-95 keep going until you get to exit #1 Rickenbacker Causeway/Key Biscayne. Be sure you don't get off at the Biscayne Blvd exit; this is not the correct exit. Go through a few traffic lights and you'll get to the toll where you pay a $1 toll fee and keep going for about 6 miles until you get to the Key Biscayne.
