Downtown Miami is a vibrant and eclectic area of Miami that mixes glass and steel high rise buildings and colorful stores with tons of Latin flair. Downtown Miami is the perfect place to spend an afternoon. Be sure to admire the scenic Biscayne Bay and visit Bayfront Park. You can also see Miami from above aboard its Metromover which is free and runs through three loops; Omni, Downtown, and Brickell. It will allow you to discover some of the best Miami sites like the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts.

While in downtown be sure to go shopping at the Bayside Marketplace, visit the Miami Art Museum or the Miami Science Museum and have lunch at a Riverside restaurant. The best time to visit Downtown Miami is during the day when businesses are open and tourists and office workers populate the city. At night, things can get pretty empty. Also weekdays are better than weekends and everything is open for business. There's a lot of activity year-round but the best time to go to downtown Miami is during the winter and spring.

Downtown Miami is the place to experience some of the city's best, not only the views but also unique restaurants such as Il Gabbiano, River Oyster Bar, and Capital Grille. Be sure to shop 'til you drop in Miami's premiere shopping street, Flagler Avenue and discover huge department stores such as Macy's and the local La Epoca. Bayside Marketplace and Mary Brickell Village in Brickell are also prominent downtown shopping destinations. Downtown Miami also has spectacular parks such as Bicentennial Park which hosts many outdoor events, Pace Park and Bayfront Park.

The best way to get around downtown Miami is by using public transportation as traffic can be complicate and parking almost impossible to find or expensive. Miami's Metrorail has three stops here at Historic Overtown/Lyric Theatre Station, Government Center Station, and the Brickell Station.

Metromover is also very popular in getting around downtown and has 22 stations which can be found approximately every two blocks. There is also a large network of bus lines that run through the downtown area. Biking has also become very popular in the downtown area with many bike lanes and bike parking.

Many Miami dining and shopping establishments offer senior citizen, military and student discounts with valid ID. Senior citizens over 65 and people with disabilities who are not residents of the Miami Dade area can ride Metrorail and Metrobus at a discounted fare, using the Easy Card. Seniors who are permanent residents of Miami Dade can ride transit free using a Golden Passport.

There are many ways to save money while traveling to downtown Miami. You can use a Go Miami card to get free or discounted access to many Miami attractions, or get online coupons and deals. Or take advantage of free entry days at the museums in downtown. While there are many upscale eateries in downtown Miami, there are also cheap places to have lunch such as Jackson Soul Food, Tobacco Road, Wok Town, and many national chains. Those who have money to spend can splurge in places like Zuma, Rio's and Azul.

During the day, downtown Miami is lively with activity and there are tons of things to do. It's a fun place for families, groups, or the lonely traveler. You can go shopping on Flagler Street and Bayside Market, check out great museums and art galleries, dine by the water, cool off in some of the downtown's parks by Miami River, and visit important landmarks such as the Bank of American Tower or the Freedom Tower.
