The International Ballet Festival of Miami


The International Ballet Festival of Miami is one of the most successful ballet festivals of its kind in the United States. It features over a dozen of the most prestigious ballet companies from around the country and around the globe from countries such as England, Italy, the Dominican Republic, brazil, Hungary, Spain, Germany and Chile. Every year these renowned classical ballet companies travel to Miami featuring their biggest ballet stars to perform at various venues to a spellbound audience.

The International Ballet Festival of Miami has been going strong for sixteen years and is one of the most popular cultural events of the season. It takes place between the end of August and the end of September. With attendances of over 10,000, the International Ballet Festival of Miami has really become a staple of the Miami Fall calendar, and has made the city into a prominent international ballet center.

There are many spectacular ballet performances scheduled throughout the festival such as "Italian Ballet Night", the "Contemporary Dance Performance", the "Etoiles Grand Classical Gala Performance" and the renowned "International Young Medalists Performance" which features some of the best young ballet stars Medal winners of the International Ballet Competitions in Collaboration with Youth America Grand Prix.

There is also a dance film series which exclusively screens dance movie premieres in Miami Beach's Cinematheque. The film screenings are conducted in in collaboration with Dance Films Association of New York City. The International Ballet Festival of Miami also schedules numerous workshops about ballet and dance throughout the month.

Be on the lookout for master ballet classes featuring international guest ballet masters. These classes are only open for festival ballet dancers but they are available for student observation which is definitely worth a visit. The festival culminates with an incredible evening of events with a festival closing gala of the stars performances, featuring some of the best ballets from the top international and national classical ballet companies. Every year, the "Criticism & Culture of Ballet Award" is also awarded to a top expert ballet critic.


The International Ballet Festival of Miami


The International Ballet Festival of Miami takes place in many venues around Miami such as; the Lehman Theater at the Miami Dade College N. Campus, the Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus Auditorium, the Colony Theater Miami Beach, the CubaOcho Art & Research Center, the Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater, the Miami Beach Cinematheque at the Historic City Hall, the Amaturo Theater Broward Center for the Performing Arts at Southwest 5th Avenue, Balletique Studio on Coral Way, and the Rodez Art Gallery in Coconut Grove.

Tickets to the many events of the International Ballet Festival are available for sale at the individual venues where they are held, but they can also be purchased online on the festival's website. Ticket prices range between $15 and $55 depending on the event and the venue. Groups over 10 can call 305-549-7711 for special rates.
