The Winter Music Conference is one of the most popular events in Miami and one of the most publicized annual musical events in the world. It targets professionals and brings in thousands of artists and music industry insiders such as promoters, producers and record label representatives from over 70 countries in Europe, Asia, and Latin America. This makes the Winter Music Conference the biggest musical gathering of its kind in the world.
Each year, hundreds of thousands of electronic music fans, 51 percent of whom are ages 22 to 30 flock to Miami to dance the days and nights away during the hundreds of parties and events scheduled during the Winter Music Conference. The conference has worldwide reach and fame and 38 percent of the attendees who travel to Miami for the event come from outside the country.
More than 1,400 DJs and artists perform during the conference's parties. The Winter Music Conference takes place at over 89 venues in Miami Beach and South Beach for the duration of five days. The week-long conference is a pivotal event in the music industry and draws in over 500 accredited journalists and media representatives from around the world.
The Winter Music Conference first began in 1985 and was founded by Louis Possenti and Bill Kelly, who were DJs at the time and Record Pool Directors to celebrate electronic dance music. The first conference was held in February of 1986 and was held at the Fort Lauderdale Marriott, drawing in over 80 music industry insiders.
The Winter Music Conference has over 400 events scheduled every year during the week. The event's biggest attraction is the highly-anticipated International Dance Music Awards. It is the longest-standing awards event which is solely dedicated to the dance and musical industry. The winners in 57 award categories are chosen through online voting from millions of fans in 206 countries around the world. Another one of the most well-known and popular events during the Winter Music Conference is the Ultra Music Festival which brings in over 100,000 attendees to Bayfront Park and is the largest electronic music festival in the US.
The Winter Music Conference also features many pool parties, club events, remixing and editing sessions and exhibits which look at the latest technologies, products and services in the music industry. Also check out the DJ spin-off beat matching which showcases celebrity hosts, judges, DJs and as some of the world's best DJs fight it off to get the top spot. The Winter Music Conference VJ Challenge is also a great event where attendees can discover video and audio and video VJs from around the world.
